We are dedicated towards building a team of committed and responsible employees, seeking to treat every individual as a respected and valued part of our community and culture.
At Hummingbird, our commitment to the training and development of our employees is steadfast. In 2023, we continued to enhance our workforce’s skills, ensuring not only exceptional performance but also a significant contribution to the skill base of our host communities. Our goal is to have our mining operations primarily managed by staff employed locally and nationally, offering ample opportunities for career advancement and development based solely on merit. As of this fiscal year, 94% of our total workforce is employed nationally, reflecting our dedication to integrating with and supporting the talent within our host communities.

Local Employment and Community Engagement
At our Yanfolila and Kouroussa sites, fostering local employment and nurturing talent within the communities where we operate is integral to our commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices.
Yanfolila: At Yanfolila, 94% of our employees are Malian nationals, with 24% originating from local communities. We continually update our nationalisation plans for all positions, prioritising the development of national succession plans for roles currently held by international employees.
Kouroussa: Similarly, at Kouroussa, 96% of our employees, including subcontractors, are Guinean nationals, with 81% coming from local communities. This exceeds national requirements for local employment and representation in leadership roles, showcasing our commitment to local empowerment and sustainable development within Guinea’s mining sector.
We ensure transparency and community involvement in our recruitment practices. Skilled worker recruitment is overseen by a recruitment commission established by the Kouroussa prefecture, while unskilled worker recruitment is conducted by affected villages and validated by local authorities. We also engage local radio stations during recruitment to ensure transparency and inclusivity.
Diversity and Inclusion
Hummingbird values a diverse and inclusive workforce, representing a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. As an equal opportunity employer, we uphold policies such as the Equal Opportunities Policy and the Anti-Discrimination, Harassment, and Bullying Policy. Our commitment to diversity is reflected in every aspect of our operations, from recruitment to promotions, underpinned by our Recruitment and Diversity Policies. We place particular emphasis on enhancing gender diversity and empowering female employees at all organisational levels.
Vision for the Future
We are dedicated to building a team of committed and responsible employees, treating every individual as a respected and valued part of our community and culture. Through strategic training programmes, management, and feedback, we continue to strive towards our vision of having our mining operations run by locally and nationally employed staff.
Our approach in 2023 has been holistic, emphasising fair wages, diversity, inclusion, talent development, and positive labour relations. These strategies and initiatives are designed to create a supportive, equitable, and empowering work environment for all our employees, reflecting our core values and commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices.
